Graduation

Image
Yesterday was the Dean Entrepreneurs graduation. We were all nervous and excited at the same time. We have worked hard on this course, we’ve all followed a journey that, at times frustrated the heck out of us. As a group of about 18 we have become friends, a family even and we have supported one another in a range of different ways. For me this course has not only allowed me to broaden my business scope, not only make friends but it has given me the confidence in myself to actually make something of The British Homemaker . Working on the many parts of setting up a business that works has been challenging, tiring and at times difficult but it was never an option to quit. Not this time. The group presentation was filled with pride, seeing how far each of us had come, how we’d managed to pull off all we’d worked for and then present our businesses to the standard we were finally happy with. A couple of us are already trading, some are about to begin trading but I believe that by the end...

St Patricks day

Image
Just to set the record straight: It is not, it has never been and it never will be St Patty’s Day! It is, it has always been and it will always be St Patricks Day or for short St Paddy’s Day. Getting it wrong offends MANY Irish people. MANY ! So now you know! Moving on, we aren’t doing anything to celebrate it this year but my new, dyed living room curtains are almost the perfect colour for me to get away with incorporating it into our day! Debs

time

For as long as I’ve been blogging I’ve found something to waffle about or share. However, just lately I find that the note book I keep in my bag is getting full of the things I want to blog about and time is not on my side. With work, family and my home I do not have the time to put in to blogging in the same way. For months now it’s been slowing disappearing with the occasional post here and there. I’m not giving up on blogging and I’m grateful to those of you who have emailed me to ask if all is ok. It’s better than ok, my hard work over the last 2  years is finally paying off. I graduate in a little over  a week on my course. I have a presentation the same day to not only my course mates but some established business owners and newspaper people. I have sewing orders coming in and need my ultimate attention, my kids are doing super well right now and I want to keep on top of it with them. We spend time with lots of friends and this is doing us all so much good, especia...

The other side to the british homemaker

Image
For a while now I’ve been working on a specific side to The British Homemaker but because of how my clients came to me I didn’t feel the need to do any outward advertising. However, my networking friends are banging their heads with me and threatened my life , nagged me to begin putting it out there! So I got the site done, focused solely on the area that I am commissioned to do and put up all the information I can possibly put up. So if you want to see what The British Homemaker does when kids/home and church commitments are in check (and when they’re not!) come visit my site: I am very blessed that my trading is constant and from all areas of life. Not only do I have personal clients who are looking to utilise their space but those who are financially limited, have a growing family and/or looking to earn extra income from things they have in their homes. I also have a number of business who commission me to work with them in their offices, store rooms, canteens, warehouses and e...

Actual church bulletins

These sentences actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced in church services: The Fasting and Prayer Conference includes meals. -------------------------- The sermon this morning: 'Jesus Walks on the Water.' The sermon tonight: 'Searching for Jesus.' -------------------------- Ladies, don't forget the jumble sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands. -------------------------- Remember in prayer the many who are sick in our community. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say 'Hell' to someone who doesn't care much about you. -------------------------- Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help. -------------------------- Miss Charlene Mason sang 'I will not pass this way again,' giving obvious pleasure to the congregation. -------------------------- For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downst...

lighthouse in the night

Image
A couple of months ago the Relief Society and Young Women sang in sacrament. The chosen song, Lighthouse in the night, is  a young woman song but when you listen to the words they are so powerful and uplifting I dare anyone not to raise a tear. As a mother of a teenage daughter, my heart aches that she no longer comes to church with me. I allow her the free agency her Father in Heaven gave her and while she still lives many of the principles she’s been taught and isn’t against the church or doctrine, I do worry that she is missing out on the wonderful messages that young women her age so need in this world. This song was sang where the RS sang to the YW then the YW sang the chorus…in confirmation of them knowing who they are, why they are here and just how precious they really are. Take a listen…..you wont regret it…but just go grab a tissue or ten first!

Easter plans?

Image
There are certain times of the  year that just don’t ‘do’ it for me. I mean, some events are just fun for the day but the day after it’s all over with, such as Valentine’s day, Pancake day etc. We {the kids and I} make novelty things to decorate the table, we have fun foods symbolising the theme etc but I can’t say I get super excited about them. However, Easter is my ultimate favourite celebration of the year. I.Love.Easter! For the last 2 years I have done a scripture chase with my kids lasting approx 3-4 hours each. In between each scripture they’d get a clue for a hidden egg, small gift and a scripture they had to learn and tell back to me as well as what their understanding of it was. The first year we done this we watched a range of Lds childrens scripture cartoons in between and/or some talk from the General Conference. No matter how many times I hear Elder Jeffrey R Holland’s talk, I am consumed with emotions. Shame, love, humility, gratitude and a deeper ...
