About TBH

The British Homemaker is just a name to describe me, one person. I am a mum of 4 awesome kids; 3 boys aged 23, 21 and 7 and 1 daughter aged 15. I am also a very proud nanna to two beautiful little girls who joined our family in September 2010 and April 2012. I am divorced and work from home so I can stay as hands on with my children as possible. While my older boys have now left home (one in uni and the other is a true family man) I know my job continues just as importantly until the last two are grown and left the coup too...but even then I'm still their mom.

In the 23 something years I have been a mother I have maintained homes for us all that have been workable to our family situations at that time. We all know that things change in life, often by choice, sometimes by circumstance and more often because our needs change. The one thing that hasn't changed for me though is the deep feeling to take care of my home so my family get the best out of it. That's not to say that it's always clean and tidy, it's not always organised and its not always easy. However, when I allow things to fall to the wayside then that is precisely what I am allowing my home to become.

I am a firm believer that my home is my business, that's not to say that my kids are my staff but I am responsible for nurturing them, teaching them, loving them, guiding them and all other manner of things they need in this life. If I run my home the best I can that suits us then I know my children function more efficiently. If I view my house as somewhere to retreat at the end of the day, which is what it should be, then somewhere in that mindset also grows the ''I don't want to'' attitude but if I take care of ''business'' to be sure that all who live here are on top of their game then oh boy, that chill out time is so much more worth it.

I will be honest with you, I don't do well with ''I hate housework or I don't have time'' because in totally bluntness we chose to move out of our parents house, didn't we? Ok the actual circumstances are very different for many of us, but oftentimes we do make a choice to have our own home, life, responsibilities so I get peeved when we then begin to complain about things we chose in the first place! I am a realist, I know we all have different lifestyles, some busier than others and some harder than others, I do not discount anything. I have learnt that by setting up some fundamental basics we can just simplify our homes enough that will enable us to live more than we work, but of course that all starts and ends with our mindset! Are you ready to join me on this journey into creating a workable home routine and system? ;)

The British Homemaker blog will become a catalogue of daily things that I do in my home or projects I have worked on or anything related to homemaking. I always love to hear from people so please feel free to comment or email me, I will always get back to you and if you have a blog, I will definitely go read and most times follow you too :)

I do take sponsorship and advertising on this site, not for monetary gain but to cover the costs of some projects that I believe would be of interest to you readers. At some point in the new year I will move over to the new website, but to be honest, right now, after almost a year of having issues with it all I am not rushing into it anymore. I just prefer somewhere nice and fun to post on where the features are simple, fun and easy for you readers to use.

Last but not least, as the name says, I am British and I am a homemaker. I live in a beautiful part of England and I am blessed with a healthy lifestyle and many opportunities. I live wisely and frugally to ensure I achieve my long term goals and much prefer to share what I have learnt than just hoard it! :)

So come join the journey and see how I can help you along the way!
